Lake Compounce announced today the return of the Crocodile Club will hold it’s annual cook out on August 31, 2010.

The Crocodile Club’s 129th reunion dinner will include free rides on the carousel will be available from 12:00 n to 1:30 pm.

As usual, the festivities will begin with the social hour at 1 p.m. For early arrivers, a cash bar will be available from noon onward upstairs in the ballroom. The traditional dinner of lamb and fried corn with all the trimmings, that was first served in 1875, will commence promptly at 2 p.m. After dinner, a l program with guest speakers will follow with speeches limited to three minutes per person, and political speeches banned.

Guests will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. A check made payable to Crocodile Club for $50 each must be received for each participant by Aug. 15, 2010. Mail to the Crocodile Club, c/o Carousel Museum, 95 Riverside Ave, Bristol, CT 06010.

The park’s press release noted that last December, Jeff Dziob, father of Nathan (age 9) and Abigail (age 6), was killed by a drunk driver who crashed through his garage. Shortly thereafter, the family puppy also died. Jeff’s brother’s family also experienced sadness when their 8-year old son lost an eye, due to a fireworks accident. The Dziob’s also lost Jeff’s father to cancer last year.

“We knew this family was special” said Jerry Brick of Lake Compounce. “The amount of nominations was overwhelming, and so many people wanted to see the Dziobs do something special and fun together, in the wake of their tragedies”.

In addition to 165 minutes in the park by themselves, the Dziobs will enjoy all of the food they can eat as well as unlimited games, and a special Lake Compounce family prize pack.

Now, Town Council member John Barry has announced his support for closing a portion of Mt. Vernon Road to allow the amusement park to expand east onto land it owns across the road.

“I know if would be controversial,” Barry said, “because it connects to Bristol, but we should look at it,” he told the council this week.

Town Council Chairman Edward Pocock III said the idea was something at least to explore.
